On The Run by nogginbops14

'I wouldn't do that if I were you,' she told me the first time we met.

It was the day I tried to rob a bank. It was the day my life changed forever. It was the first day of many that I was on the run.

It’s not that I’m a bad person. I’m not a robber deciding my next target was to rob a bank. It’s just my father, he’s terribly sick from cancer. This wouldn’t be a problem if our family could just get him medicine, the thing is… we can’t. Our family is poor, really poor. And now, we can’t help my dad who is slowly dying.

I thought and thought, until finally I came up with my final decision. I would break into the bank and steal money for my dad’s medicine.

Everything was going as planned. It was a Sunday, so not many people were at the bank. The front door was open, luckily. I carefully snuck inside and hid from the people working at the bank. There was a new vault in the bank, a large one, 1 000 000 000 dollars in it, just a box, but surrounded with millions of security sensors. If my plan worked properly, I could turn off all the electricity by a switch in the back of the building. If all the electricity were off, the sensors would be too. I made it to the room with the switch. I was about to turn the switch…. That’s when I heard the voice. “ I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” I turned around, and there was a girl. Then the alarm sounded.

It turns out; the switch was surrounded with sensors too. As soon as I stepped in, the alarm went off. Security was quickly making their way toward the room. They were after me. Wait, not just me, the girl who warned me too, they thought she was trying to break in too. We ran through the building, the buzzers loud in our ears. Until finally, we reached the door.

My name is Elizabeth May. I’m 12 years old with bright red hair and a few dotted freckles on my nose. I used to live a normal life, but now I was on the run with some girl I didn’t know, yet. The police are after me.

The girl and I ran and ran. We reached the woods near the bank, finally we stopped.   I couldn’t hear the footsteps behind me anymore, just the panting of the other girl. I finally took the time too look at her. She had short brown hair and a pale face. We were both scared too talk. Eventually I asked her “ What is your name?”” Mary”, she replied.  Then we both started talking. It all happened so fast. I told her everything, especially why I was trying to rob the bank. I found out why she was at the bank too, for a school project on security. She had come alone too examine their security systems. Then we realized how long we had been sitting here. “ We should get moving , they are tracking us.” I said. So we ran.

After what seemed like days, we reached a small corner store. It turns out Mary had $10 in her pocket for snacks at the bank cafeteria. We entered the store and bought two apples and four sandwiches. Mary and I were just paying at the cashier when we noticed a wanted sign on the bulletin board. Not just any wanted sign though, I sign for us.

I wondered what my parents were thinking right now. Me wanted.

Mary and I left the store. Luckily unnoticed. We walked hidden on the side of the street for a while. We spent days in the woods, sleeping on soggy and hard ground. We were starved and dehydrated, but most of all homesick.

Finally we decided to confess to the police. We thought up of the perfect solution. We would tell the police that I was with Mary looking at the systems for the project. We entered the room to look around, and the alarm set off by accident! If our plan worked, we would be cleared up and back at home soon.

Eventually we found an officer. He recognized us immediately, and we were brought to the station.   We told them our story and they believed it! One of the officers drove us back to our houses.

That night I had a good clean and feast. I told my parents the whole real story. How lucky for me that they forgave me and told me never to scare them like that again. Everything was back to normal, except my dad. He was still sick.

Mary and I suddenly had a brilliant idea, we could get jobs at the bank  as security and put our paid money together to bring my dad to the hospital!

After months of work Mary and I finally had enough money to pay for my dad’s care. After our adventure together Mary and I stayed close friends.  My life was back to normal, but it was also still changed forever.

                          The End!
