Me and Grandma by wow9

from Contest #7

She's a local.

She’s mysterious. She’s my grandmother. Grandma is very different, she believes in monsters under her bed. That’s why she only has a mattress. Just a week ago my Grandpa died so she is moving in with my family. Grandma is my mom’s mom and today she came over to unpack. She brought in her mattress, a pillow and a blanket…that’s all. My mom said her room was the spare room in the basement. But Grandma said she wasn’t sleeping down there, she was too scared. My mother rolled her eyes and told Grandma to stop being silly but Grandma was serious. So mom said she could sleep in my room and I could move down to the basement. Well, I wasn’t too happy about that because my whole Saturday was moving all my things to the basement and that wasn’t an easy job at all. And all that Grandma did the whole day was knit. At the end of the day when I was all done, Grandma handed me a sweater. “I made this just for you Lucinda.” It was the sweater she spent the whole day knitting. I took the sweater. “Thanks so much Grandma.” She nodded then sat right back down on the couch. The sweater she gave me was beautiful; it was my style and my favorite color, purple. I tried it on and it fit perfectly. Grandma turn to look at me. “You like?” I nodded. “Its wonderful.”

The next day, I woke up to see lots of elderly women in are living room. They all surrounded are TV. I looked at them in confusion. “Oh my god, where do you get a TV like this?” One lady said. “They say there at a place called Future Shop and Best Buy.” My Grandma said. The screen its so clear and no rabbit ears!” An other woman said. My Grandma eyeballed me. “Everyone, this is my granddaughter Lucinda! And she is going to make us tea and cookies!” Grandma announced. I frowned and bit my lip. “Uhh… Hi…I don’t know how to make cookies.” I admitted to the ladies. One with short grey cropped hair laughed. “Oh that’s funny, Julianne your granddaughter can’t make simple cookies!” I knew Grandma was embarrassed because she was blushing. So I made something up. “Oh did I said I couldn’t make cookies, I meant my 4 year old brother can’t make cookies.” So I went to the kitchen to try to make cookies.

Lets just say making cookies isn’t my talent. I’m just really good at making a mess. Anyways, me and Grandma went on a shopping trip and I discovered that she is the most open minded person in the world and I also discovered that if a did something she really liked she give me a wink. All and all she is my Grandmother and the best Grandmother I know. I love her more then anything.

Months past and Grandma past too. I was devastated. She was my best friend in the world. Now I pray to her and god every night before I go to bed. And I know that she is one of those 1 billion stars in space. That’s one of the things she believed in. And I know which star she is. She’s the big flashing one in the middle of the cluster. She’s my star.
