Sometimes it's nice to just get away. by Cathy

A boy with a parrot on his shoulder was walking along the railway tracks. He did this a lot, he enjoyed walking up and down the tracks, it gave him time to think about things. His parrot, Samual, always came along, they were never seperated until dinner time, when the boy's mother would put them in seperate rooms. His mother would curse the bird, she never liked birds. The boy's mother had tried to get rid of the bird many times, it never worked. Samual always came back for the boy, no matter what. Obviously the boy never minded, he loved his pet.

As he walked he thought about why his mother hated the bird so much, he never understood why. It didn't make sense, Samual never hurts people, he's one of the most friendly birds out there. So, she has no reason to hate him. The boy thought that his mother was being very unfair.

Samual started making a wracket. The boy stopped walking and looked around, there was nothing wrong. Samual flew up, away from the boy and flew higher into the sky. The boy shouted out to the parrot to come back, but Samual flew higher and higher, until he was out sight. The boy was bewildered, this had never happened before. He burst into tears, his chest moving quickly, where had Samual gone? Why had he gone? Had he done something wrong?

The boy's mother saw what a mess he was when he came home, she was shocked and hugged him tightly. The boy wouldn't speak, he wouldn't tell his mother what was wrong, eventually she gave up and sent him to his room. He walked slowly and softly to his room. The boy was like a ghost for the next few days, tailing his feet behind him. He didn't look forward to anything, all he wanted was his bird, The boy had basically lost his friend. His mother had had enough, she called a doctor, the doctor found nothing wrong with him and left. He left with a large bill in hand, this made the boy's mother furious. She ripped the paper up into a million tiny bits, and slammed the door shut. Her face was red, redder than the boy had ever seen it go before.

He sighed and wondered off to the window seat. He gazed out of the window, letting his mind wonder. He snapped out of it, as he felt a warm tear fall down his face. The boy quickly wiped it away with his hand, just then something caught his eye from outside. He peered up. His jaw almost hit the floor, his eyes lit up. He rubbed them just to make sure he wasn't seeing things, Just as he opened his eyes again, Samual was at the window. The boy opened the window up and let Samual in. The boy laughed with excitment, as Samual chirped his familiar chirp. His mother walked through, in her high heels. Noticed how happy the boy was and smiled. She had never been so happy to see the bird before, she even fed it some food and let it sit on her shoulder.

The boys eyes sparkled like they had never sparkled before.
