She told him with a little gesture he had never seen her use before. He looked at her, not knowing what to say next. She had never been so angry with him before. He was good with words, but nothing he could say was going to calm her down. She looked up at the sky, and then down at her feet. Her golden hair hung in her face, she looked up at him. Her eyes looked so sad, but she wouldn't cry. Not in front of him. "I can't follow you" she said. "How could you make these plans without me? You can't just decide to do something like this and not talk to me about it Matthew. I'm your wife." Then come with me" he begged. "I can't, I have a life here Matt. I have my family here, and my friends." "I thought I was your life Emily." "And I thought I was yours Matt. I've lost you though, I don't know you anymore, we were so young when we got married, so sure of ourselves, maybe we rushed in to things, maybe we just aren't supposed to be together, maybe this is for the best." For the first time, he saw her cry, not a lot, but just a couple tears rolled down the side of her face, and for the first time, he felt bad. "I have to do this Emily, this is a great opportunity for me, to help people, to serve God, it would only be for like a year Em, just come with me." He was getting frustrated, he was packing up and leaving things behind, why couldn't she? Why couldn't she just love God as much as he did? Why couldn't she understand that not only did he want to do this, but in his heart and soul, he felt like he needed to? "God wouldn't get mad at you for not going Matt, he wouldn't get mad that you decided to stay home with your wife.....and child." She rubbed her arm across her stomach, and a couple more tears rolled off of her face. She was scared, she didn't really think she loved Matt anymore, but she didn't want want to raise this baby by herself. She didn't want to do this without him. He had always been the strong one, and in a way, she depended on his faith to see them through things. "You chose God over me Matthew, and I am choosing me over you." And with that, she walked away, crying.
